A Statement Regarding the April 26, 2005 Incident,
In Which the Taiwan Independence Association
Tried to Delay Lien Chan En Route
to the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport

In 2005, Chiang Pin-kun- the then KMT Vice Chairman, who also used to work at the Taiwan representative office in Japan- made many trips to Beijing. Since the Taiwan Independence Association (TIA) knew that Chiang was returning to Taiwan from Beijing on April 2nd, the Taiwan Independence Action motorcade went to the airport to “greet” Chiang with protests of his visits to Beijing, which they deemed were a betrayal of Taiwan.

Soon after Chiang’s return to Taiwan, there were rumors that Lien Chan would be going to Beijing on April 26. Su Beng’s assessment of this situation was that the Kuomintang (KMT) was about to sellout Taiwan to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

So the Taiwan Independence Association’s underground network began surveilling Lien Chan’s every move. On April 26, from the moment that Lien stepped out of his house, members of the Taiwan Independence Association began following him to the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Lien was followed on the highway by about 100 people in 70 Taiwan Independence Association vehicles. After following him for 49.5 km on the highway, the Taiwan Independence Association was able to stop Lien’s vehicle for about 5 minutes. But because Lien had some police escorts with him, the police stopped the Taiwan Independence Association from blockading Lien’s vehicle. Even after the Taiwan Independence Association was not able to blockade Lien, they followed Lien to the airport. No newspapers in Taiwan reported this incident.

Once people from the TIA and Su Beng arrived at the airport and were on the third floor of the airport, they saw some people dressed in black using bats to beat up some old Taiwanese men who were at the airport protesting Lien’s visit to China. The people from the Taiwan Independence Association who were with Su Beng were not carrying any weapons with them, but they had some fireworks on them, so they set off the fireworks to scare away the men dressed in black. The police stopped the Taiwan Independence Association people, so then Su Beng and people from the TIA left through a side door.

The Taiwan Independence Association had tried to blockade Lien Chan on the highway en route to the airport, in hopes that if they could delay Lien by half an hour, it would make international news. In doing so, this would send an international message that Taiwan is not a part of China. Not only did the Taiwan Independence Association want to stop Lien Chan’s visit, but more importantly, they wanted to warn the Taiwanese people that Lien Chan, the KMT and CCP were all going to betray Taiwan.

Since the 4-26 incident, the Taiwan Independence Association has used every opportunity possible to warn the Taiwanese that the KMT would betray Taiwan. Though, some Taiwanese might be aware of this, most are not aware of the seriousness of this.

Since Ma Ying-jeou was elected President in 2008, we can see his intentions to follow Hong Kong’s model by selling out Taiwan to China.

On October 1, 2009, the Republic of China’s supreme court made a judgment regarding the 4-26 incident. They ordered 92-year-old Su Beng to serve 6 months and 50 days of detention for violations related to the incidents on April 2 and April 26, 2005. Su Beng’s assistant, Bin Hong has been ordered to serve 6 months, plus 3 months of detention for violations related to the incidents on April 2 and April 26, 2005. Su Beng and Bin Hong seriously object to this sentence. The ROC law is not the law of Taiwan. How can one be charged as guilty for loving Taiwan?

The judgment was announced on October 1, 2009, which is the 60th anniversary of the Peoples’ Republic of China. In doing so, the KMT is using this judgment as a tool to appease the Chinese Communist Party. The Taiwanese people should know that the ROC does not represent the country of Taiwan. Taiwan will survive only if Taiwan becomes independent.
