Ma and his administration are habitual liars, even to the face of an US congressman
Ma and his administration are habitual liars, even to the face of an US congressman. Janice Chen, the spokesperson of volunteer medical team for President Chen just wrote an article, describing the attempt of the Taipei Prison authority (i.e., MOJ and Ma) to isolate President Chen by baring, discouraging, or intimidating some doctors from seeing President Chen, in particular those doctors who dare to provide good care to President Chen based on the Hippocratic Oath and therefore trusted by President Chen.
According to Taipei Times,
"US Representative Steven Chabot, the chairman of the US House of Representatives’ Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, on Tuesday told a Taiwanese delegation in Washington that he felt that former president Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) should be granted medical parole."
Now the lies:
"Chabot was told that despite not having been paroled, Chen Shui-bian is receiving medical attention and Ma shared others’ concerns about the jailed president’s deteriorating health."
"The Ministry of Justice says that Chen Shui-bian is receiving adequate care, adding that he is not exhibiting symptoms of Parkinson’s disease."
However, according to Janice Chen, who just wrote an article below describing how the Taipei Prison authority attempts to keep good doctors away from President Chen, so that he "is receiving adequate care" only, not great care.
The most trusted doctor at the Veteran Hospital by President Chen is Dr. CD Kuo. President Chen also acknowledges a few other doctors for their professionalism. Among them, one is a young doctor, Dr. Young Chih-Jay (楊智傑) who correctly diagnosed the sleep apnea problem of President Chen last September and another is Dr. Chen Chih-Teh (陳記得) who operated on President Chen's nose to alleviate this apnea symptom. Dr. Chen Chih-Teh was discouraged from operating this surgery (he was issued a threat that he might not be provided with an anesthesia doctor for the surgery.) when he first proposed it. As a result, the operation was delayed until last November. The operation was successful and the recovery was smooth. The symptom of low oxygen condition of President Chen has reduced from over 30 minutes a day to less than 4 minutes a day. Dr. Chen visited President Chen often after the surgery (every other day) and they developed mutual trust. Dr. Chen was allowed to see President Chen without a security guard standing by his side. However, all these have changed since Dr. Kuo went on an out of country trip and President Chen expressed his desire to see Dr. Chen during Dr. Kuo's absence. A security guard started to follow Dr. Chen around during his visit.
At 5 P.M. on Jan. 22 when Dr. Chen entered the psychiatric unit of the Veteran Hospital to see President Chen, he was blocked by a security guard and was informed that President Chen did not wish to be bothered by him anymore because the nose surgery had completed. Dr. Chen was stunned but he was persistent and requested to see President Chen to confirm this message in person. The security guard then changed his story, admitting that it was an order from the prison authority. When Dr. Chen verified this "DO NOT DISTURB" message with President Chen, President Chen replied "How could it be? I look forward to your visit instead." On Jan. 24, Dr. Chen visited President Chen again. He was blocked again and was told if it was an order from the top management of the Veteran Hospital. When Dr. Chen requested to see a written statement of this order, the guard changed the story again and admitted that it was an oral order from the prison authority. Dr. Chen now is placed on this long "black list" of doctors and similar to Dr. CD Kuo, Dr. Ko Wen-Je, Dr. Kuo Chung-Feng, Dr. Chen Shun-Sheng, Janice Chen, etc. before him, Dr. Chen is now subjected to harassment for observing the Hippocratic Oath.
There you go, "Chabot was told that despite not having been paroled, Chen Shui-bian is receiving medical attention and Ma shared others’ concerns about the jailed president’s deteriorating health."
Ma is actually concerned that President Chen receives too much good health care.
