就本（24）日自由時報報導美國聯邦眾議員夏波表示希望看到陳總統回家，本辦公室聲明如下：
1.夏波議員相當關注陳總統的病情、司法及醫療人權以及台灣當局的處理情形。去年在美國國會聽證會上即公開聲援，主張讓陳總統保外就醫。這一次與台灣祝賀歐巴馬總統就職的訪問團會面時，復提出希望看到陳總統回家，本辦公室敬表感謝。而對於眾多美國國會參眾議員、國際人權團體、國際組織、權威傳媒以及海外醫療專家陸續透過各種不同形式來支持陳總統保外就醫，我們併此致謝。
2.金溥聰代表會後以新聞稿表示，陳總統受到良好醫療照顧及不符典型帕金森氏症等，完全是外行人說內行話，非專業醫師充當專業人士發言，誤導社會視聽，丟臉丟到美國，這是何等嚴重之失職，應自動辭職下台！
3.事實上，陳總統在2008年11月入黑牢之前，身心非常健康良好，四大重病可以說都是被關出來的，包括狹小的舍房、沒床沒桌沒椅、形同關禁閉的知覺剝奪、24小時的照燈監視、不合格的就醫環境、及其他反人權、不人道的處遇等皆是致病之因，金代表若曰馬政府已給予良好照顧，不啻推卸責任、顛倒是非、公然說謊。
4.北榮院方及陳總統民間醫療小組都已證實陳總統所罹為"帕金森氏症候群"（一種非典型的帕金森氏症），但其對生命及身體的危害程度與典型的帕金森氏症同樣嚴重。醫學鐵證如山，無可辯駁，金代表避重就輕、粉飾太平、居心不良，已不適格駐美，應立即下台！

Congressman calls Chen Shui-bian’s imprisonment a tragedy during hearing

Representative Steve Chabot (R-OH) used a question and answer session of a House Foreign Relations Committee hearing on China to criticize the Republic of China in-exile government’s treatment of former ROC President Chen Shui-bian.
Chabot, who has met Chen on several occasions, spoke out Wednesday about Chen’s imprisonment and said, “I think the fact that the Taiwanese government has decided to move itself into the direction of the criminalization of politics is unfortunate.”
Chabot said, “The previous president—President Chen Shi-bian—is still behind bars.”
Chabot said it was time for Ma Ying-jeou to deal with the way Chen has been treated. Chabot summarized, “I think for an administration to come in and essentially jail the previous administration is a tragedy.”
President Barack Obama was asked last week by the Formosan Association for Public Affairs to intervene on Chen’s behalf but has not yet responded to the request. FAPA director Mark Kao has described Chen’s treatment as “inhumane” following reports from Taiwan that Chen had been unknowingly drugged with the psychiatric medication lorazepan while in prison.
Chen, serving a lengthy sentence for corruption involving “soft money” while in office has been held for long periods in a small cell and his health has deteriorated. The drugging of Chen was disclosed recently by cardiologists now treating Chen for a heart condition following a review of Chen’s medical records.
The Taiwan Civil Rights Litigation Organization has suggested that Chen is protected by the Torture Victims Protection Act. Although Taiwan, also called Formosa, is under the day-to-day control of the exiled Nationalist government of China, sovereignty of the island is undetermined with the United States the principle occupying Power under the San Francisco Peace Treaty and international rules of war.
In 2009, the District of Columbia U.S. Court of Appeals declared that Taiwan’s unresolved status was imposed on the islanders by United States foreign policy and that the “strategic ambiguity” was actually “political purgatory” for Taiwan.
Because of the Cold War the people of Taiwan have been denied self-determination and the United States officially opposes independence for the island. The People’s Republic of China considers the former Japanese territory to be a province of China and has made threats to take the island by military force. The ruling Kuomintang government led by Ma Ying-jeou has adopted the “one China” mantra that the Chinese have been repeating over and over.
Chen Shui-bian denies he was corrupt and says his imprisonment is because he opposes Ma’s efforts to move Taiwan into the People’s Republic of China.
