在2013年2月25日, 台灣媒体的社運家林飛帆到加州的州政府拜訪加州州參議員余胤良、和余議員討論在台灣獲得廣大支持的「反媒体壟斷」運動; 這運動是因為台灣的言論自由的流失、從2008年以來、尤其是在親中的「旺旺中時」這個媒体巨獸的多項併購之後、已經越來越嚴重! 在這「媒体壟斷併購」的背後是「親中」的財團對台灣輿論的控制將無法想像、而且這些財團長久以來對他們自己的媒体的言論「檢查」、一向是惡名昭彰. 「反媒体壟斷」運動的唯一目的就是要捍衛保存台灣絕對不能失去的言論自由!

沙加緬度FAPA的林文約博士說: "這些是台灣人和台美人共同奮鬥了幾十年才擁有的自由. 我們一定要儘一切努力來防止馬政府和它的盟友們把這些自由任意剝奪. 媒体的併購一定要現在就禁止.”

余參議員和他在場的幕僚對林飛帆想要保存台灣的媒体自由、防止新聞壟斷的心願, 表示同情!

On February 25, 2013, Taiwan media activist LIN FEI-FAN (Miles Lin) visited with State Senator Leland Yee at the California State Capitol to alert the legislator and to discuss the ongoing Anti Media Monopoly/Censorship movement that has gained widespread support of Taiwanese concerned with the increasing loss of freedom of speech since 2008 and most seriously the attempted takeover of various major media by a consortium led by the pro-China Want Want China Times. Significantly, the pro-China financial interests behind this takeover/merger would have control over freedom of speech and have a history of censorship in the media currently owned by them. This movement has the single goal of preserving the democratic privilege of freedom of speech which Taiwan cannot afford to lose.

Dr. Joseph Lin of the Sacramento FAPA Chapter, states: "These are freedoms that the people of Taiwan, together with Taiwanese Americans, have fought hard over the past several decades to attain. We must, with conviction, do whatever we can to prevent these freedoms from being wiped out single-handedly by the Ma Administration and its allies. This media merger must be stopped now!"

Senator Yee with members of his staff present sympathized with Mr. Lin's objective of working to preserve freedom of the press and to prevent further censorship in Taiwan.
