Expected denial of political motivation in CSB's case. Interesting that CSB was transferred to Taichung after 4 years of incarceration in abhorrent inhumane conditions in Taipei and one day after Chairman Steve Chabot's announcement to visit with CSB. I wonder what caused the Ma government's sudden show of "compassion".

Washington, Aug. 1 (CNA) Taiwan's representative office in the United States on Thursday rejected allegations by a U.S. congressman that the corruption case against jailed former President Chen Shui-bian was politically motivated.

Taiwan's government, officially called the Republic of China, respects judicial independence and does not interfere in any legal cases, said Chang Li-hsien, head of the Press Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States.

Chang made the statement after Rep. Robert Andrews (D-N.J.) introduced a bill Tuesday urging the government in Taiwan to grant the ailing Chen medical parole and "to ensure that he receives the highest level of medical attention."

The bill states that since the Kuomintang administration came to office in 2008, a large number of investigations and prosecutions have been brought against officials from the previous Democratic Progressive Party administration, including Chen.
